Edwina Alexander and Cevo Itot du Chateau have again placed in the Global Champions Tour, with a third placing in the grand prix in Chantilly.
Â
Only five riders made it through to the jump off.  The first, Penelope Leprevost (FRA), set what would be the time to beat with a fast turn to the second last fence, with her mount My Lord Cathargo. Edwina was next to go with her more compact horse, and while the pair also went clear, they were unable to beat Penelope’s time. Ludger Beerbaum (GER) incredibly managed to get the fastest time so far, even with a slip on that time saving turn, but had the last one down.
Â
Laura Kraut and little Cedric (USA) were next to go, going clear and beating Penelope’s time.
Â
That only left Nick Skelton (GBR) and Carlo, who while fast, had a rail down, giving victory to the American pair.
Â
So the event ended with an all female finish – Laura Kraut in 1st, Penelope Leprevost in 2nd and Edwina Alexander in 3rd.
Edwina Alexander has taken out the Global Champions Tour of Cannes in a thrilling jump off.
Â
Edwina was last to go after both Jessica Kurten and the great Castle Forbes Libertina and Kevin Staut and Le Prestige St Lois both took out the last fence in their efforts to get a fast time.
Â
Edwina, feeling confident that Cevo Itot du Chateau was jumping well, opted to try for a more careful round to keep the poles up, and succeeded!

Brett Parbery and Victory Salute finished 10th out of 15 in the finale event of the FEI World Cup Dressage Final, the freestyle to music. The Australian pair finished on a score of 70.550%. Brett had been ranked 11th after Thursday’s Grand Prix score of 67.021%.
Â
The pre-event favourites, Edward Gal and Moorlands Totilas (NED), were the winners of the World Cup Final, but not without fierce competition from Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival (NED) who took an early lead by winning the Grand Prix. However, the magical Totilas, that the world has come to love, rose to the challenge in the Kur, earning 89.8% to take out the 2009/10 title.
Â
The weekend also saw the final round of the FEI World Cup showjumping qualifier, where Edwina Alexander placed third on Cevo Itot du Chateau, from Rolf-Goran Bengtsson and Casall La Silla (SWE) and Jessica Kuerten and Castle Forbes Libertina (IRL). Chris Chugg and Vivant placed 23rd.
Â
Edwina, who finished in the FEI World Cup Western European League Standings in fourth place, and Chris now move onto the FEI World Cup Final in Geneva in 14-18 April 2010.
Â
Congratulations go to the Aussies who did us proud in s’Hertogenbosch!
Australia’s Edwina Alexander won the eleventh leg of the 2009/2010 Rolex FEI World Cup Jumping series in Vigo, Spain with a perfect performance from Cevo Socrates.
Â
In the 11-horse jump-off, the 15 year old gelding showed the wisdom of his years when producing a classy, clean and confident round that was simply too good for the rest. And this latest result has rocketed Alexander up to fourth place on the series table with just two more qualifying legs remaining.
Â
Earlier that day, Edwina had used YouTube to watch her round with Socrates in Zurich Grand Prix where we won two years ago, to remind her what to do - this was the horse’s first show in eight months. And it appears to have worked!
Â
Runner-up was Switzerland’s Beat Mandli, winner of the third leg at Lyon in France last November, while, after four previous attempts, Belgium’s Judy-Ann Melchior picked up her first points of the season when third with the bay mare Cha Cha Z.Â

Australia’s Edwina Alexander has placed second in the eight leg of the Rolex FEI World Cup™ series in Leipzig on 24 January 2010.
Â
The ladies dominated the line-up. Ireland’s Jessica Kuerten produced a devastating burst of speed to pip Edwina Alexander and third-placed Frenchwoman Penelope Leprevost in a 16-way jump-off. The girls simply out-galloped the boys against the clock, and this was a particularly notable victory for Kuerten who also won this leg of the series in both 2008 and 2009 and so made it a Leipzig hat-trick today.
Â
Frank Rothenberger’s first-round track produced plenty of clear rounds but the big questions were all posed in the jump-off. Riders had some tough decisions to make as the snaking second-round course asked for some super-tight turns. As it emerged however, it was simply the exceptional speed of Kuerten’s Castle Forbes Libertina that would win the day.
Â
Australia’s Philipp Lever and Ashleigh Drossel Dan also performed well, finishing in eight place.
